Terms & Conditions
These terms govern your use of Purlre and your @purlre.com email address. Please read them carefully.
Last updated: August 30, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
These Terms & Conditions govern your use of Purlre, including Purlre email addresses using the @purlre.com domain and related services. Purlre is operated by an independent Canadian service provider. These Terms apply to all Purlre users, including Free, Pro, and Enterprise users.
By creating an account or using Purlre, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the service. If you enter into a paid subscription as a consumer, additional rights and protections provided by applicable consumer-protection legislation continue to apply and are not excluded by these Terms.
Purlre may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes, Purlre will provide reasonable notice, including by email where appropriate. Continued use after the effective date of updated Terms constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms, except where applicable law requires a different form of consent. Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot legally be waived under applicable law.
2. Email Service & Acceptable Use
Purlre provides email addresses using the @purlre.com domain for personal, professional, community, and other lawful communications. You may use Purlre for legitimate purposes provided that your use complies with these Terms and applicable law.
You must not use Purlre to:
- Send unsolicited bulk email, spam, or unlawful commercial solicitations
- Distribute malware, ransomware, phishing material, malicious software, or harmful code
- Harass, threaten, stalk, or intimidate another person
- Impersonate another person, organization, or domain
- Commit fraud, scams, identity theft, or other deceptive or unlawful conduct
- Circumvent security controls, authentication systems, rate limits, or other technical safeguards
- Interfere with the operation or security of Purlre or another person's systems
- Distribute or knowingly store unlawful material
- Use Purlre in violation of applicable local, provincial, federal, or international law
Purlre may take reasonable measures to prevent, investigate, and respond to abuse, fraud, security incidents, and violations of these Terms.
3. PGP Encryption & Privacy
Purlre uses PGP encryption to protect stored email content. For supported inbound email, the message is encrypted using the recipient's PGP public key before the message is stored in Purlre's database.
The recipient's private PGP key is generated and stored locally in the user's browser and is not transmitted to Purlre servers as part of normal service operation. Purlre does not possess the user's private PGP key and therefore cannot ordinarily decrypt messages stored using that key.
Users are responsible for securely backing up their private key. If a user loses their private key and does not have a backup, Purlre may be unable to recover access to previously encrypted messages.
Purlre does not sell personal information or email content. Purlre may collect, use, retain, or disclose information where reasonably necessary to provide the service, prevent abuse, comply with law, enforce these Terms, process payments, operate third-party services described in the Privacy Policy, or protect the rights and safety of users and other persons. The Purlre Privacy Policy describes these practices in greater detail.
4. Privacy, Confidentiality & Limited Inspection
Purlre is designed to minimize access to user information. Purlre may process technical information and email metadata, including sender, recipient, timestamps, message identifiers, delivery information, and security-related information, where necessary to operate and secure the service.
Purlre will not routinely inspect the contents of users' stored encrypted messages. Where technically possible and legally permitted, Purlre will rely on metadata, automated security measures, and user reports when investigating abuse.
Purlre may access or process information, including email content where technically available, when reasonably necessary to:
- Respond to a specific abuse or security report
- Investigate suspected fraud, malware, spam, or other serious misuse
- Protect the security or integrity of Purlre
- Prevent imminent harm to users or other persons
- Comply with a valid warrant, court order, subpoena, or other legally binding requirement
- Fulfil another obligation imposed by applicable law
Purlre will limit such access to what is reasonably necessary for the applicable purpose. Nothing in these Terms creates an obligation for Purlre to decrypt messages that Purlre cannot technically decrypt.
5. Abuse Reporting & Enforcement
Users may report suspected abuse through the reporting functionality made available by Purlre or by contacting Purlre support. Purlre may investigate reports and take proportionate enforcement action, which may include:
- Warning the user
- Restricting particular functionality
- Temporarily suspending an account
- Terminating an account
- Removing or restricting access to content where technically and legally permitted
- Blocking abusive infrastructure or activity
- Preserving information where required or reasonably necessary for legal or security purposes
- Making disclosures to law enforcement or other appropriate authorities where required or permitted by law
Purlre may take immediate action where necessary to protect users, prevent serious abuse, or comply with legal obligations. Purlre strictly prohibits the creation, transmission, distribution, or storage of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Where Purlre becomes aware of suspected CSAM, it will take appropriate action in accordance with applicable Canadian law and other applicable laws, including reporting to appropriate law-enforcement or reporting authorities where required or permitted by law. Purlre is a Canadian service and does not represent that it is subject to every reporting obligation applicable to U.S.-based electronic service providers.
6. Account Rules
Each personal email address may be associated with a maximum of three Purlre accounts, subject to technical and anti-abuse controls. Accounts are personal and may not be sold, transferred, or resold without Purlre's written authorization.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for taking reasonable steps to secure your account. You should notify Purlre promptly if you believe your account has been compromised. Purlre is not responsible for unauthorized activity resulting from credentials being disclosed, reused, or otherwise compromised through circumstances outside Purlre's reasonable control.
Purlre may reclaim an @purlre.com address associated with a Free account that has remained inactive for more than 12 consecutive months. Where reasonably possible, Purlre will provide advance notice to the personal email address associated with the account. Any reclamation process will be carried out in accordance with the Privacy Policy and applicable law.
7. Subscriptions & Billing
Paid Purlre plans may be offered on a recurring monthly or other billing basis, as displayed at the time of purchase. Unless otherwise stated, paid subscriptions are billed in Canadian dollars through Stripe. By subscribing to a recurring plan, you authorize the applicable recurring charges until the subscription is cancelled.
You may cancel a subscription through the available account controls or by contacting Purlre. Unless applicable law provides otherwise, cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid billing period. No refund is provided for unused portions of a billing period unless required by applicable law or expressly stated otherwise at the time of purchase.
Purlre may change subscription prices. Where required by applicable law, Purlre will provide advance notice of material price changes before they take effect. Nothing in this section limits any cancellation, refund, or other rights provided by applicable consumer-protection legislation. For Ontario consumers, online agreements are subject to statutory requirements concerning disclosure, acceptance, correction of errors, and provision of a copy of the agreement.
8. Data Loss & Service Availability
Purlre takes reasonable measures to protect the availability and security of the service, but no internet service can guarantee uninterrupted availability or complete protection against every security incident.
Because Purlre does not possess users' private PGP keys, loss of a private key may permanently prevent access to encrypted messages. Users are responsible for maintaining secure backups of their private keys.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Purlre is not responsible for losses caused by a user's failure to maintain a private-key backup, service interruptions outside Purlre's reasonable control, or unauthorized access resulting from the user's failure to secure their credentials.
9. Limitation of Liability
Purlre is provided on an “as available” and “as is” basis to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Purlre does not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including rights or remedies provided by applicable consumer-protection legislation.
Subject to the foregoing, to the maximum extent permitted by law, Purlre's aggregate liability arising from your use of the service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid to Purlre for the service during the three months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or CAD $100 for a Free account. This limitation does not apply where prohibited by applicable law.
10. Cookies
Purlre uses cookies and similar technologies as described in its Privacy Policy. Essential session cookies may be used where necessary to provide requested account functionality, authentication, security, and service operation.
Optional analytics technologies are used only where the applicable law requires consent and the user has provided the required consent. Purlre does not use advertising cookies, behavioural advertising cookies, or retargeting cookies for third-party advertising purposes.
The specific cookies and analytics technologies used by Purlre are described in the Privacy Policy.
11. Consent for Optional Analytics
Where consent is legally required for optional analytics technologies, Purlre will obtain consent before activating those technologies. Consent will be presented separately from acceptance of these Terms and will not be made a condition of using Purlre where the analytics activity is not necessary to provide the requested service.
Users may decline optional analytics without losing access to core Purlre functionality. Users may withdraw consent using the controls provided by Purlre. The Privacy Policy explains the purposes, providers, categories of information, retention periods, and other relevant details associated with optional analytics.
For users subject to the GDPR or other consent-based privacy regimes, Purlre will apply the applicable requirements governing valid consent.
12. Privacy & Data Protection
Purlre's collection, use, disclosure, retention, and protection of personal information are governed by the Purlre Privacy Policy and applicable privacy legislation.
For Canadian users, applicable legislation may include the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where applicable, substantially similar provincial privacy legislation. PIPEDA requires organizations subject to the Act to follow principles including accountability, meaningful consent, limiting collection, limiting use and disclosure, safeguards, openness, and individual access.
Purlre will maintain reasonable safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information it holds. If a privacy breach creates a real risk of significant harm, Purlre will comply with applicable breach-reporting, notification, and record-keeping requirements.
13. International Users
Purlre is operated from Canada but may be accessible to users in other countries. Certain Purlre service providers may process information outside Canada. Purlre remains responsible for the personal information it controls and will take reasonable measures to ensure appropriate protection when using third-party service providers.
Purlre's Privacy Policy identifies relevant third-party service providers and describes applicable international data transfers. If you access Purlre from a jurisdiction with additional mandatory privacy requirements, those requirements may apply to your use of the service. Nothing in these Terms is intended to contractually waive mandatory rights provided by the laws of your jurisdiction.
14. Suspension & Termination
Purlre may suspend or terminate an account where reasonably necessary to:
- Prevent abuse or fraud
- Protect the security of Purlre or other users
- Investigate serious violations of these Terms
- Comply with applicable law
- Protect the rights, safety, or security of Purlre, its users, or third parties
Where appropriate and legally permitted, Purlre will provide notice and an opportunity to resolve the issue before termination. Purlre may take immediate action where delay could create a security, legal, or safety risk. Upon termination, Purlre will handle account information and stored content in accordance with its Privacy Policy and applicable legal retention requirements.
15. Changes to These Terms
Purlre may update these Terms when reasonably necessary to reflect changes to the service, security practices, legal requirements, or business operations. The current version will be published on the Purlre website with its effective date.
For material changes, Purlre will provide reasonable notice where required or appropriate. Where applicable law requires affirmative consent to a material change, Purlre will obtain that consent rather than relying solely on continued use.
16. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Ontario, except to the extent that mandatory laws in your jurisdiction provide otherwise. Nothing in this section prevents a consumer from exercising mandatory rights or remedies available under the laws that apply to them.
Subject to applicable consumer-protection and other mandatory jurisdictional rules, disputes relating to Purlre will be subject to the courts of Ontario.
17. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is determined to be invalid, unlawful, or unenforceable, that provision will be interpreted or modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable where legally permitted. The remaining provisions will continue in effect.
